Common Questions
Everything you need to know about the Kanha ecosystem. Fast answers for our growing community.
The Community
Kanha House is one of the official student houses of the IIT Madras BS Degree program. Named after the majestic Kanha Tiger Reserve, we represent strength, resilience, and unity. We provide a 'Lighthouse of Belonging' for our digital community, bridging the distance through sports, technical fests, and cultural excellence.
Access to our community groups is exclusive to verified Kanha House members. You'll need to fill out our official verification form using your student email (@ds.study.iitm.ac.in). Once verified, you'll receive invites to your Regional Pods, Batch Hubs, and Interest Groups.
The program features 12 houses, each named after Indian forests such as Kanha, Nilgiri, and Sundarbans. These houses foster virtual communities among online students. Assignment to houses is automatic and random during enrollment to encourage diverse peer connections.
Houses create online communities that enable collaboration, resource sharing, peer support, and discussions through dedicated portal groups. They boost engagement in a fully virtual setting, offering the advantages of residential communities without requiring physical campus presence.
No, house assignments are final and cannot be altered. This policy ensures balanced distribution across all 12 houses to facilitate diverse interactions and equitable opportunities for every student.
Yes, houses engage in various online competitions, including quizzes, hackathons, and ranking challenges, to promote active participation. Winners may earn certificates or special recognition. In addition to intra-house events, houses also compete in inter-house festivals like the Paradox Festivals.
Day-to-day activities are managed by student-elected leaders, including the Secretary, Deputy Secretary, Regional Coordinators, and Web Admins. Oversight is provided by the IIT Madras BS Degree program team, faculty, and staff.
The Upper House Council consists of the Secretaries and Deputy Secretaries from all 12 houses and governs the overall house system. Elections are conducted by the Student Elections Committee under Student Affairs. Free and fair elections occur every August, where house members elect their Secretary and Deputy Secretary for a one-year tenure. The Secretary then oversees elections for group leaders, elected by group members. All Secretaries and Group Leaders must be under 25 years of age.
We welcome proposals that would change or modify policies pertaining to student life. Our diverse, vibrant, hardworking, determined, and self-motivated student community has contributed to the continuous development of this pioneering programme.
All complaints of bullying or harassment will be taken seriously by the IITM BS Degree Team. The aim is to provide the support needed to help individuals decide the best course of action, and to resolve the issues raised through formal complaint procedures. You can raise complaints against matters related to the behavior of staff members or fellow students.
